SedNet activities in 2006 |

SedNet Steer Group agreed to further elaborate the integration of sediment management in river basin management plans. In addition they emphasized that sediment may become of significance in linking the EU WFD and the EU Marine Strategy.
On November 22-23, 2005, the Steering Group of SedNet met in their SedNet homebase in Venice in order to discuss the strategy for 2006. The Steering Group comprises a mix of stakeholders and scientists, representing some major European Ports, environmental and applied research institutions and universities. They agreed on the necessity to put forward and further elaborate the topic on how to integrate sediment management in river basin management plans, that are required by the EU Water Framework Directive. In addition they emphasized the thematic extension of SedNet to the coastal and marine areas and to sediment quantity issues. Sediment as the link between rivers and seas may become of significance in linking the EU Water Framework Directive and the EU Marine Strategy.rnrnFor the discussion of both topics – sediment management in river basin management plans and sediment in the scope of the Marine Strategy – SedNet workshops are planned in autumn 2006 in Venice.
